Rosenthal IP is a new patent attorney firm established by our Principal, Daniel Rosenthal, to provide a high level of care and expertise to local business and individual clients and to provide a responsive, ethical, meticulous and cost-effective alternative for overseas attorneys and clients requiring representation in Australia and New Zealand.
In terms of qualifications relating to patent attorney skills, Daniel may be regarded as one of Australia’s best qualified patent attorneys. He has two Masters degrees in intellectual property law and passed both the UK and European patent attorney qualifying exams before moving to Australia. Daniel is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys (IPTA), is an active member of one of IPTA’s committees and is, of course, a qualified and registered Australian and New Zealand patent attorney.
Daniel has well over 20 years’ experience in intellectual property protection. After graduating in physics from the University of York, he worked for several years in the publishing arm of the British Institute of Physics. He then entered the world of Intellectual Property (IP), obtaining a Masters degree in the Management of Intellectual Property from the University of London, and then working as a trainee patent attorney in the UK and qualifying as a UK and European Patent Attorney in the 1990s. Daniel moved to Australia in 2001, and qualified as an Australian registered patent and trade mark attorney, working with a top tier firm of Patent Attorneys until 2013, and then with locally based independent patent attorney firms.
Daniel’s patent practice is mainly in the mechanical/engineering field. He focusses mainly on preparation and prosecution of locally originating patent applications, and on assisting overseas applicants file and prosecute Australian patent applications. He also has a considerable experience in opinion and opposition work. Daniel has a particular interest in technologies related to: mining and related mineral processing; ;medical, assistive and therapeutic apparatus (but not pharmaceuticals); sports-related apparatus and construction.
He has considerable expertise in registered design protection. He has been ‘Head of Designs’ in two local firms of patent attorneys, is the only Australian patent attorney to have attended both the 2016 (Singapore) and 2018 (London) INTA Designs Conferences, and is a member of the Australian Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys’ Designs Legislation and Practice Committee.
Daniel takes particular pride in developing appropriate filing strategies for his clients to make best use of the protection afforded by IP law, in Australia and (if desired) overseas. His extremely thorough and client-focused approach is highly valued by his clients.
